    Aktueller CGE Press Release:

    SPACE ACE BLASTS OFF!

MVCreations And CrossGen Celebrate Don Bluth’s Galactic Sensation!

Saving the universe, rescuing damsels in distress, battling malevolent menaces, and experiencing puberty a second time. It’s all in a day’s work for a hero, right?

SPACE ACE, based on legendary animator Don Bluth’s cult classic video game, follows the intergalactic exploits of the amazing Ace, astro-babe Kimmy, and one-time nemesis Baby Borf, in a hilarious cosmic thrill ride. Brought to you by CrossGen publishing client MVCreations, the six-issue all-ages adventure blasts off on August 20th.

“Building on our MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE series, MVCreations recently landed the exclusive rights to produce comic books based on the hit video game Space Ace from the Don Bluth Group and Dragon’s Lair, LLC,” said MVCreations Marketing Director Jonboy Meyers. “With popular ‘80s toy lines enjoying success in the comic book format, video games are a natural choice to be given the illustrated treatment.”

“As a kid I spent too much of my own lunch money playing video games, Space Ace in particular,” explained MVCreations Art Director Matt Tyree. “Space Ace pushed the boundaries of what a video game could look like, and set the standard for game graphics and quality game play.”

“We’ve lined up some talented people for the series,” stated MVCreations President Val Staples. “Penning the book will be Robert Kirkman (Tech Jacket and Invincible), with pencils by up-and-comer Paulo Borges, and colors by Pat Duke. It’s shaping up to be one fantastic looking book! Robert’s writing really stays faithful to the story established in the original game, but puts his own patented spin on things. Expect a lot of high action and comedy to drive the story. Old fans and new fans alike will not be disappointed!”

“The art that MVCreations has produced is dropping a lot of jaws in the Bullpen,” stated CrossGen Director of Marketing & Communications Bill Rosemann. “It’s amazing how closely they’ve captured the signature look of Don Bluth’s art. It’s like discovering a Space Ace sequel game that we never knew existed!”

“Will there be any other Bluth-created properties making their way into the comic book format anytime soon? Absolutely,” said Meyers. “Don created a lot of timeless properties which naturally translate into comics! So stay tuned!”

Retailers and readers can order SPACE ACE #1 in the May edition of Diamond Comics Distributor’s Previews catalog.

Exclamation Dragon´s Lair kurz vor dem Start!

    Press Release

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of master animator Don Bluth's Dragon's Lair, the heroes and villains of the history-making arcade game make their comic book debut this summer! The six-issue DRAGON'S LAIR miniseries, joining SPACE ACE as the second title based on Bluth's cult hit video games, follows the exploits of Dirk the Daring, his beloved Princess Daphne and the diabolical dragon Singe! In the debut issue, Singe, swearing revenge on his hated arch-nemesis, swoops up the Princess in his cruel claws! Now the brave knight must survive the dangers of the Dark Kingdom to save his true love! Brought to you by CrossGen publishing client MVCreations, the six-issue all-ages adventure thunders your way on August 6th.

"We're absolutely thrilled to bring this best-selling video game to comics! And working with Don Bluth is a dream come true!" said MVCreations president Val Staples. "The game made a huge impression on me as a kid, as the beautifully drawn game graphics really pushed the envelope of what was being done in the early '80s. And in my humble opinion, Dragon's Lair set a benchmark for other video games to follow."

"I can't think of any Gen-Xer out there who hasn't played or enjoyed watching the game as a kid," stated MVCreations marketing director Jonboy Meyers. "We wanted to stay true to the look and feel that Don established and repackage it for a whole new generation of fans! Don has such a timeless style and look to his work that is so identifiable; it exudes mass appeal to people of all ages. We're really proud to be working on a comic book that we can sit down and read with our kids."

"We've lined up some really talented people for the series," said Staples. "Penning the book will be Star Wars and Star Trek novelist Andy Mangels, with art by the talented Fabio Laguna. Newcomer Tony Washington will supply the colors for the series. Creatively, the comic book stays faithful to the story established in the original game, but puts a modern twist on things. So expect a lot of high action and comedy to drive the story!"

"I can't tell you how many hours I spent standing slack-jawed in the Wildwood boardwalk arcade, watching lines of gamers play Dragon's Lair," added CrossGen director of marketing & communications Bill Rosemann. "When I saw the art from MVCreations, I had the exact same reaction...the game looked like a lushly animated cartoon, and so does the comic book! They nailed that trademark Bluth look!"

Retailers and readers can order DRAGON'S LAIR #1 in the next edition of Diamond Comics Distributor's Previews catalog. Lead on, adventurer . . . your quest awaits!

    TALES OF THE REALM

A six-issue mini-series from MVCreations starts in September. It is written by Robert Kirkman, penciled and inked by Matt Tyree and colored by Mike Garcia.

Here's how CrossGen describes the book:

"What if the amazing elements of sword and sorcery were blended with the familiar hustle and bustle of modern life? Find out as we follow three actors and their fight to make it big in a slightly different on the hit TV show Tales of the Realm. It's the light-hearted adventure that dares to answer the question: Is sharing a dressing room next to a sludge troll fun?"

Zu dem Gerücht, daß MV Creations & CrossGen Entertainment für eine Weile getrennte Wege gehen:

    O-Ton Val Staples:

    Well...
Truth is, we aren't in the greatest shape at the moment.

I've been living like a pauper for a long time, so I'm used to it.

But there's a handful of creators who've worked for us who are past due payment and are waiting to get paid... and they deserve to get paid for delivering their end of the deal.
We've been doing whatever we can to pay what we can until the money starts coming in.
Until then, we keep our creators updated with what is happening, same with employees here at MV.

CG has assured us they are working towards a resolution.
In the meantime, they've turned complete production of October/November/December titles over to us.

This will insure we will get caught up in the next few months, get all of our creators and their payments caught up, and get back to where we need to be.
While that is going on, CG can focus more on their own needs while they work towards a solution.

It's a strange place to be... in comics as a business. Like any business, there are regular people no different than anyone else behind those desks and artboards working away, doing the best they can to make sure everything works out. I don't think anyone likes being in the middle of something like this... how could they?

There's a lot of "what ifs", "could haves", and "should haves" floating around right now. And that never helps much.

Luckily, CG has given us the ability to get caught up and back on track.
And we all remain hopeful that things for CG work out, all past due payments will be caught up, and all CG employees and freelancers will be in a better position in the near future.

In an industry that has so many bad stories to tell, along with some of the worst sales in the histories of comics for every publisher, you have to keep hope alive. There are too many people preaching doom and gloom right now, and not just for CG.
So we keep a positive outlook, try to form realistic expectations, and continue working on our books while plotting how quickly we can get our creators caught up.

If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask. I can't guarantee I can answer everything, but I'll do my best!

Here is our current release schedule for the following months.
Things could bump around a week here or there, but this is what's slated at the moment based on what's at the printer.
I think Bill Roseman will be posting this soon as well (sorry if I jumped the gun, Bill!):

    Books in October:
    Dragon's Lair 2 of 6 (Wed, 15)
MotU - Rise of the Snakemen 1 of 3 (Wed, 15)
